Scholar's Mate is always worth reading as a way to improve your chess. I hope that many of you will take a look at it.
This year's Saskatoon pre-Christmas tournament was a very small tournament if measured by the number of participants, but it was a great tournament if measured by the quality of competition.
St. George Elementary School gym, located at 748 Redberry Road in Saskatoon, will be the site of the Pre-Christmas Scholastic Chess tournament, now scheduled for Saturday, December 3rd. The first round will start at 10:30 a.m., with the doors opening at 9:45 a.m.
This will be a five or six round tournament depending upon your section, and is open to all Saskatchewan students from grade one to grade twelve.
On Sunday October 2nd, 18 student chess players played the first scholastic chess tournament of this new school year in the gym at St. George elementary school in Saskatoon. The players ranged from grade one Anastasia Sasata (yes, another child of National Master Robert Sasata, and younger sister to Alexander who finished third last year at Nationals), all the way up to three players from grade 10.
Dividing the players into sections was a bit of a challenge given the age differences and rating differences, but in the end, I think the sections worked out pretty well.
Many chess players improve by learning chess on-line.
There are lots of free chess web sites that will help you improve your game. Here are some that I have used:
